The Declaration of Independence, adopted July 4, 1776, laid out the principle that all people are created equal and entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It's the founding statement of American identity, still quoted and referenced 250 years later. Inspired by my love of quilting and those opening words, the star is based on the Lone Star quilt pattern, also called Star of Bethlehem.  The radiating diamond strips are built out in rings of red, white, and blue. I paired it with the eagles and the declaration's own words to tie the quilting tradition to the founding text.
