Because women controlled household consumption, the success of colonial boycotts depended on them— so they turned spinning, weaving, brewing and even shopping into powerful political tools. Charity wrote to an English cousin that although “heroines may not distinguish themselves at the head of an Army,” the women of America constituted “a fighting army of Amazones… armed with spinning wheels.”\u003cu\u003e\u003c\/u\u003e\u003cu\u003e\u003c\/u\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003ePaul Revere, on his famous April 18, 1775 midnight ride.\u003cu\u003e\u003c\/u\u003e\u003cu\u003e\u003c\/u\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cu\u003e\u003c\/u\u003e \u003cu\u003e\u003c\/u\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI chose to turn my little row of rebels into a needle book, but I think it would be absolutely darling as a long skinny pin cushion or even as a pin drum.
